Biography
A specialist in figurative sculpture, most cast in bronze, Nathan David is probably best known for his sculptures of dancers, although much of his time is spent on architectural commissions and portraits. His Tribute to Dame Margot Fonteyn’ the over lifesize bronze figure of the dancer as ‘Ondine’, was erected at the ballerina’sbirthplace at Reigate, Surrey, UK in 1980 and was the first in a series of works related to dance. Many dance commissions have followed, including works for the Boston Ballet, USA. In 1997, a bronze lifesize Mother and Child was unveiled at Clare Hall, Cambridge, UK. Other clients have included English China Clays, HelicalBar PLC (sculpture for Cardiff City Centre) and All Saints Church, East Sheen, London, UK (14 Stations of the Cross in Terracotta).
Nathan David was made a Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 1980, and was a part-time lecturer in Sculpture at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts from 1975-1990. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and at many other galleries in London and abroad.
